The Underbelly of Your Employer Brand

Well crafted ads, shiny, happy employee testimonials, top places to work lists, slick employment videos, etc paint the picture of the perfect employer. Enter Web 2.0. My Favorite Rich Media Ad So Far
June 21, 2007I think this is the coolest rich media ad that I’ve ever seen. This campaign is showing a live streaming video feed of an event in Times Square. Accelerade has paid a guy to run on a treadmill for 24 hours and you can see him if you happen to be passing through Times Square or if you happen to be browsing Yahoo. You Can Never Be Too Rich or Too Effective - So Look Into Rich Media
June 20, 2007Although many employers are just barely beginning to experiment with the standard gif banner ad (the ones that just animates - no audio, video, expansion, etc), the rest of the interactive industry has been using a lot of rich media. A rich media ad is a banner ad that incorporates video, audio, expansion, data capture, games, polls, etc. These ads are more engaging for users and can offer a stronger branding experience than a standard gif. Banner Ads Improve Their Street Cred
May 14, 2007For most of my career, I’ve been challenged and/or heckled by someone asking/stating “Come on, those banners don’t work?!” or “Well, I never click on banners”. And I have steadfastedly stood by my graphic ad friends, because they do add value.
I’m not alone anymore! According to research published in the Journal of Consumer Research and more understandably discussed in an article by Science Daily, banner ads have an effect, even if you don’t notice them. Even when people cannot recall the ad, the repeated exposure to the ad leads to familiarity and that leads to positive feelings. The relationship between exposure and positive feelings is a direct one, with positive feelings increasing as exposure increased. April 17, 2007I’ve been extremely busy the last few weeks at work and I haven’t had a lot of time to blog, or for that matter eat, sleep, exercise, or relax. Good thing I got my taxes done before I hit this time crunch.
Anyway, part of what has been keeping me so busy has been working on a lot of media plans. So, I feel the need to share my frustration with media vendors. I feel that media vendors are sometimes their own worst enemies and have processes in place that get them left off RFP and media plans. Chat - The Virtual Recruitment Tool For Real Life
March 30, 2007There has been a lot of discussion about Second Life and virtual career fairs. From Job Fairs in Second Life (here and here), with many differing opinions regarding the value of such an initiative. Personally, I’m less enthusiastic about job fairs in Second Life, than I am about the branding opportunities.
However, I do very much believe that companies can leverage virtual recruitment to significantly enhance their ROI in Real Life. And that is by using chat technology to either to run a virtual career fair or as a recruiter chat function on the corporate career site. Why do I believe in this model?
